On the 14th of December 2012, Braydon Mazurkiewich, then a Tory youth leader, posted a comment on his Facebook page where he expressed his feeling about a planned urban reserve in Winnipeg on a former defense base.
“If they build a reserve inside this city I think that will be the last straw and I will finally leave what is becoming the laughing stock. […] That was built for hardworking men and women of the military, not freeloading Indians”.
Mazurkiewich later apologized but maintained his opposition to the reserve in suburban Winnipeg:
“You know, you hear on reserves all the time, people are burning down their own homes. There are shootings and stabbings, and we don’t need to bring more of that to Winnipeg.”
